Ways to utilize ProjectTOP

It was interesting to hear about all the different ways projectTOP can be utilized. I admit it, I learned something new.

Risk management

To utilize ProjectTOP as a tool for risk management was a new and interesting thing for me. The idea to use ProjectTOP as a platform that can be configured to support different functions is not new, but the way BDO utilizes it for risk management is interesting. Risks are logged according to certain process, they are tracked, analysed and actions are made to minimize them. This is a great example how the software is flexible and that it can be configured to support almost any process.

Communication

Ticketing opens up new possibilities to utilize the software. Ticketing, in the traditional sense, is reading in information, getting to action and communicating with the ticket sender. We have noticed, that ticketing is of great use in the project world, when it’s harnessed as a communication tool outwards from the software. You can send emails from ProjectTOP about executing development ideas or reporting defects. Consultants can then answer the message and the activity progress in ProjectTOP stays always up to date.

One thing that connects all utilization, is collaboration. Communication, documented sharing of information and keeping it in place are great challenges, that fortunately we can help with.

The future

CTO Petri Pulkkila told us about future development areas. In a nutshell, these are developing ProjectTOP version 4.0, usability improvements and mobile applications.

We will put new technologies in use for developing speed, stability and security, and bettering the user experience. The leap for 4.0 will be evolutionary, not revolutionary, and it will be database compatible. Our goal is to ease user navigation in the software by making it extremely intuitive, the native mobile application development is supporting this ideology as well.

Our philosophy for development is, that to create one functionality, it should remove two old functionalities. This does not mean trimming the functionalities, but rather bettering the usability. ProjectTOP is going to be better, faster and easier to utilize without compromising features.
